Sean and Julia invited me out on their boat today, and we dropped it in Lake Sammamish a little after 1pm as the sun was peeking out from behind the stray fluffy clouds. It was only 60 degrees in the water, but that didn’t deter us (much) from starting our wakeboard season. Thankfully, Sean’s wetsuit is ridiculously stretchy and accommodates anyone from Julia’s size (tiny minus 2) to mine (long-armed gorilla), because it’s definitely not summer weather in Seattle this week; decidedly nice spring, yes, but that’s as generous as I’m going to be.
I was up on the board in a couple tries – more than I expected since I haven’t done this in 4 years or so. Sean spent most of his board time trying to scientifically determine the exact ballast settings, wedge angle, boat speed, rope length, board length, passenger seating configuration and a zillion other variables to create the wakesurfing sweet spot, while Julia dove into the wake on her surfboard like she grew up on Waikiki and then spent the rest of the day sunning herself on the deck like a cat. We had a great time and were happy to just be on the lake today, not even slightly discouraged by a little cold water. Thanks for the invite, you two – you rule!
