Greenwood Car Show – June 2016

Seafair season is officially upon us (I think my favorite time of the year, possibly edging out even Christmas) as the Greenwood neighborhood opens their doors and closes their streets for the city’s largest car show. Per usual, there are always a few interesting cars that I wouldn’t consider “hot rods” in the traditional sense and the show seems to get a little more diverse every year. Props to the local Mini Cooper club for showing up in force this year! Also, once of the nicest DeLoreans I’ve ever seen, with just the right amount of Back to The Future kitsch.

Seattle Auto Show – November 2011

I felt like an auto industry photographer this week, as the morning after my return flight from SEMA in Las Vegas I was behind the lens again shooting the Seattle Auto Show. Lance joined me in pushing buttons and critiquing design choices. I most impressed this year by Buick – impressive interiors and competitive cars for the price – and Hyundai – unique designs with a distinctive California studio flavor, really coming into their own rather than just shadowing trends. Click through to critique the 2012 models for yourself.

Seattle Auto Show – November 2010

Much bigger than last year – even despite the conspicuous absence of Dodge/Chrysler – the Seattle Auto Show this week at Qwest Exhibition Center was a great place for some glossy photos and for #1GF Cara and I to admire/critique the automotive industry’s 2011 design choices. We saw some beautiful sheetmetal, some disappointing details, a few models we would buy and a lot we wouldn’t, and a strong trend towards two-tone brown interiors – and it’s all here in the photo gallery.

Greenwood Car Show – June 2010

Danielle and I could have walked around this show for hours, and not just because it stretched for 30 blocks solid down Greenwood Ave on a beautiful summer day. So many of the cars were impeccably clean, beautifully restored, and just plain beautiful – full of curves, wings, fins, vents, portholes and chrome in a way that cars never are anymore. I wanted to take pictures of absolutely everything, but confined myself to painfully few shots per car in an effort to at least walk the length of the show before it ended and even then did not succeed, as the southern end of Greenwood was packing up to leave by the time we neared. I’m definitely headed to this show again next year as it is probably the best and most cleverly-located hotrod show in Seattle. I might even enter it myself, as there is a category for modern imports and it was far from inspiring.

Rally Champions!

Eric and I entered our first rally yesterday in his Mini Cooper, the 26th Annual LaConner Tulip Cup. We had no idea what to expect, and no experience at all. Armed with a cooler full of snacks, a pile of maps, and a clipboard bearing the day’s clues/instructions, we were flagged through the cones in a mall parking lot and sent on our way, along with 282 other cars being released in packs of 20 ahead of and behind us.

We laughed (at ourselves and everyone else) all day, darting through small towns and along farm roads, many in classic cars you literally never see – MG’s, Austin Healey’s, Lancia’s, Alfa Romeo’s, Jaguars; everyone merrily turning circles around each other and repeatedly motoring right past the answers to their rally clues. We had a couple killer breakthroughs when we discovered shortcuts, only to later spend that hard-won time looping back for a missed landmark. Still, we finished as one of the first 5 cars, and had been released as number 68 (again, of 283 – it was huge!) so we made great time overall. It came down to correct answers, and as we were competing in his Mini we were up against 60-ish other Mini teams in our class – the odds were against us. Yet with a -7 (only 7 wrong answers) and one of the best times of the day… we won!

I’ve got tons of pictures of all the amazing cars i’ll get posted for you all. We (obviously) make a great driver/navigator team and we’re already signing up for another one in June. 🙂
