I couldn't not link to Engadget’s birthday celebration today (they're 2) as (1) i read the site all the time, (2) they're funny writers and (3) some of those cakes are ahhh-MAZ-ing. The *working* Treo cake! The Sony Aibo - part dog, part machine, ALL cake. A plethora of Alienware PC cakes, which beg me to wonder how one creates shiny, metallic frosting. Even one built (yes, *built*) using a CNC laser cutter. These people are clearly the strongest candidates for ruler of the universe should nerds and bakery chefs ever unite and rise to power.
On the news-i've-always-suspected-that-has-now-been-vindicated front, DRM eats yourMP3 player’s batteries. Makes sense - decoding all those encrypted tracks and checking all those licenses burdens the wee little CPU beyond a healthy, power-saving level. So if you didn't already feel inclined to rip your own tracks or buy un-crippled music in the first place, now you have another reason: 8-20% longer battery life.
Stopped to meet friends from the old office for coffee on my way to work today, including John who's back to work (on crutches) after his motorcycle accident in nov, and healing up really well. My baristas - esp Melissa - have apparently missed me. :)
