So my motor was supposed to show up today, but G.I. Trucking sucks and is too lazy to get it here. Something about their truck breaking or whatever and they'll try again friday. It’s been sitting at the seattle terminal since dec 17th. Seriously, people, what am i paying you for? And don't get me started on fedex and ups… leaving notes on my door, coming during the day despite my specific requests to come after work, being generally incompetent and disorganized. Ugh.
In other news, seattle is all snowy and wintery, very very weird to see out the window. Downtown covered with snow, very disturbing. I don't like it. I want it to go away. Had a nice breakfast with Kim and Erika, welcoming them back to our supposedly-mild-weathered home. Steph and i grabbed lunch supplies and raced to her house to meet the engine shipment that never arrived… oh, wait, i was going to change the subject. Sorry. So anyway, first car payment is due in 15 days. Sure getting my money’s worth there. I pick up a rental car friday morning so i can drive all over town running errands, buying tools and come up to Steph’s with a trunk full of supplies and work on my car. Oh, wait, not gonna get much done without that order of parts from Courtesy Nissan i placed on the 12th that hasn't arrived because they lost the invoice. Didn't stop them from already billing my credit card. And people say big business is evil… small business is just as bad.
Oh, right, i had somethign funny to show you. Check out the funny mac-related t-shirts on this website, macshirt.com. I think this one is my favorite. If they had any left besides XXL i might actually buy one and wear it to work.

Back in the city, back on the bus - altho a later one than i should be. It’s almost a relief this week, tho, almost welcoming. It’s familiar, after a week in a home that’s new and a town i don't know anymore. My cabbie coming home last nite was lamenting the airport’s inefficiency - he’s obviously never flown thru montana. Seatac’s organized chaos was a welcome change - and at least my phone worked at seatac. Other than the technological and procedural backwardism, tho, my visit home was nice. I forget how much i depend on my family until i see them, how much i need them even when they're far away. I also forget how crazy they make me, especially around the holidays… ;)

Headed across town - which means passing briefly thru digital service - to Uncle Gordy and Aunt Judy’s for christmas dinner with grandparents and cousins. It’s snowy and winterlike, we're all decked in leather and fur and wool, the jeep is full of cookies, ham, sweet potatoes, and Mom’s excellent homemade rolls. It’s been a great holiday with the family, i'm so glad to have made it home. I hope all of you are enjoying your christmas as much as i am!

So there is internet here, but it’s dialup, and… ugh! But sometimes you can't be picky. If there was at least wireless service… oh well. It’s a vacation, right?
A vacation it has been, too. Christmas candy and cookies, Mom’s excellent cooking, and the new house is both lovely and homey. It’s going to be a fast week, but i'm making an effort to make it last, and not think about anything stressful. ;) I hope you're all doing the same this holiday season! Merry Christmas, gang!

Despite the huge lines and generally crabby disposition of the passengers, i think the whole airport travel process is operating very smoothly. Security was thorough without being excessive or rude, and the long lines did move very quickly. All the alaska employees were helpful and patient. Overall i'd give seatac a B+ this holiday season. Really, this is what our air terminals should always have been like. We were way too lax before 9-11. We were spoiled. As Madeline Albright said, freedom is not convenience. Our willingness to be inconvenienced for the good of the whole is what makes our country free. I, for one, am happy to wait in a few lines and get wanded if that keeps our skyscrapers - and our citizenry - safe.

Made it to the airport - thanx josh! Now i'm in line to get my ticket… behind about 600-700 other people. I've never seen the airport so busy!

Here i find myself again, same as last year, trying to squeeze in a few last minutes of broadband before i board a plane to spend the holidays with my amish parents… enjoying the last hours of wireless service and internet the way it’s supposed to be (not terminally slow). I can't guarantee even wireless blog updates on this trip. Huh… worked all over europe, an ocean away, but 500 miles east… probably not. Ironic. Okay, merry Christmas all, enjoy your holidays. I'm dropping off the map for 8 days in 20 more minutes. ;)
