Well, another week almost over. Had an excellent weekend with Lance in town – did all sorts of random fun things. Caleb got us into Last Supper Club (an uber-trendy dance club, for you non-locals) friday nite, and we also caught a 3-d movie at the Pac. Sci. Center about the space station (super-neato), spent some time on the beach, met Skyla for coffee and then for drinks in her ‘hood Queen Anne, and various other random things to give Lance a taste of the city. Now it’s back to the grind, back to being depressed about my meaningless existence, and back to getting told “no” by prospective employers. As recently as yesterday, actually – guess i’m not going to be working at John L Scott any time soon. Never mind that i came into the interview on 24 hrs notice, that i ran all over their office for their little interview-scavenger-hunt game, that i studied for it and was more excited about and interested in the position than any of the other doldrum candidates that were there; i suppose all i deserved for my effort was two sentences of a tersely-worded email informing me that my “skills and qualifications” were not what they’re “looking for.” Thanks a bunch, appreciate your professionalism. BTW, Caleb, i don’t hold it against you – i appreciate the chance to try, results notwithstanding. Maybe one of these times i’ll actually get the job. Heh – now *that’s* funny.

Adventures in randomness! So my long-lost friend Skyla called me yesterday, a pleasant surprise. Okay, so maybe not long-lost; it’s not like she was shipwrecked on a desert island or a political hostage in the middle east or something – she lives in Queen Anne. We just haven’t hung out in a year or so. Anyway, we were gonna make plans, and i almost told her i was busy this weekend with an out-of-town friend (Lance) when i realized that i know her for the same reason i know Lance; we all went to high school together. Hello, duh! We only ate lunch together every day for 4 years! Guess i’m sleep-deprived lately or something. So anyway, she and Jana (another long-lost friend in the same sense) are going to catch up with Lance and i this weekend, for a little, well, catch-up. But wait, it gets crazier! Guess where Skyla works. I’ll refer you to the post on April 11. Yup, that’s right, she works at the Quellos Group. Dream-job-i-was-rejected-for #347. Life is so cruel. And random.

So, yeah, it’s tuesday. It’s almost noon. Only 3 and a half days of work left. Must… not… lose… grip. Lance is gonna be here this weekend, so Danielle and i are working on some cool ideas to entertain him. I’m excited to have him out here – we haven’t had much time to hang out since we both stopped going home in the summers. If Caleb will get back to me (dude!) Danielle and i are gonna go dancing at a club in Belltown tonight. If not, i guess we’ll just sit at home playing scrabble and drinking prune juice…

Made it back to Seattle this morning at 7am – augh! It was freaky to have a whole day left after traveling that far. Got a lot done around the house and whatnot. Weekend was nice, spent father’s day and dad’s birthday at home, enjoyed some time with the parents and got to see Ann, who’s still completely crazy as always (say hi to Shawn for me!). It’s good to be back, but I really don’t wanna go to work tomorrow – augh!

Staying up late on my mom’s iMac keeping you all up to date… after spending like half an hour trying to get signed on to aol – augh!
I’m home on short notice this week; my best friend since high school lost his mother to cancer this week, so i came back home to remember her and be here for him. Lisbeth was a fantastic mother and an incredible woman, one of the most selfless, dedicated, sincere people i’ve ever known. She’ll be greatly missed by all of us, yet we have no doubt she is somewhere happier now and we rejoice in that. Although her time on earth was short, she made a greater difference in more lives than most of us ever dream possible, and no one who knew her harbors any regrets for the blessed life she led. The one thing that seems to come of these situations is that those of us who remain renew our bonds with each other and are reminded how much we value those we care about. I caught up with people i had lost touch with and started new friendships with others this week, and also made efforts for some quality time with family and current friends. It seems even lacking a physical presence Lisbeth still manages to bring us together and help us become better people. I think the memory of her will continue to do that for all of us.
I’ll be on a plane back to Seattle sunday morning at 7am (ack!) – it will be nice to return, even if i do have to work monday morning. Maybe i’ll luck out and still be sick. ;D In a great divine scheme, this trip brought me home for my dad’s birthday, which hasn’t happened since my first college summer; for that, too, i am thankful. In light of my experiences this week, i encourage my readers (yes, both of you!) to call someone you care about this weekend and tell them so, and maybe rebuild a bridge you’ve burned or relinquish a grudge. It’s really not worth it; life is too uncertain.
